Our 2025 chicks were needing a little more leg room, so we opened the chicken door for a few the other day when it was warm. These are standard size breeds just like the rest of our large fluffy chickens, and when these mature we will have a total of 24 laying hens and one rooster. In the second photo you can see one of the 2024 Brahma Ladies greeting the new chicks as they brave the out of doors for the first time :D
Next are our 2022 Dixie Rainbows, 2024 Light and Buff Brahmas, and last but certainly not least, our gorgeous Cochin Rooster. He has been doing a fabulous job of breeding and protecting all our ladies since he matured last fall, but for some reason when Spring arrived he decided he didn't like the Dixies and has taken to chasing them away and abusing them. Most likely this is because when he and the Brahmas were introduced last year they never really bonded, and the Dixies used to chase them away all the time. Now that he is large and in charge, he's decided he has no use for them, which is really a shame, because they had been getting along so well all winter and I wanted to raise some Dixie/Cochins! Maybe when they have access to the summer pasture there will be enough room for everyone to integrate again, and they will allow him to breed them. I'll keep you posted!
The plan this year is to introduce the new chicks to the Dixies as soon as possible, and hope they adopt them instead of harass them, and put everyone out in the pasture together once the chicks are old enough. Wish us luck!

We raise our poultry humanely with care, and it shows. (we hope to have pork and beef available in 2025). All stock is lovingly raised on our farm and processed in a facility here in NH.
